Can a complete novice use WYSIWYG on Dreamwever?

Postby Rich Atkinson » Sat Feb 14, 2009 11:48 am

I had a web design guy create a website for me with Dreamweaver and I would like to be able to change the copy on the website myself. I know nothing about Dreamweaver. Can I use the WYSIWYG function to easily change copy without messing up my site?

You CAN, but if you run in to trouble and don't know how to fix it, then you're kind of stuck. If you stick to the editor and only change text, and you know how to FTP, then you could try it. Keep in mind that DW isn't cheap. Weigh the pros and cons before you buy it.

by the way - you can often hire someone to do simple changes on your site for not too much money. Someone who knows what they're doing will be able to make changes quickly and not waste your time or money.

PM me if you would like some help.

Yeah, what Lisa said. Also, I would recommend that you perhaps open the file you want to work on, save the original file with a new name so you have a backup copy of that original. Then open again the original file name (which is the one you need to upload to your site) and work on that. If you mess up, open up the file that you re-named, as that's the original, you can name it back to the original file name again so you didn't lose anything or mess anything up. ALWAYS have a backup.

Thanks Tracci. That's an excellent suggestion.
Appreciate it,

Dreamweaver is one of the leading web page design software, created by Macromedia. With its WYSIWYG features Dreamweaver is the professional choice for building websites and applications. Dreamweaver has a powerful combination of visual layout tools, application development features, and code editing support.
