For me I use different reliable keyword suggestions tools... Because you can't focus only on the competitors but on keyword searches of that keywords you want to use...

Some tools I use were the keyword suggestion tools from seobook.com
adwords by Google and many other...

The best keyword research tool, in my opinion, is your brain. Think like a potential customer of yours and how they would be searching online. Once you have come up with a list of keywords, test them out. That is the only way to know if keywords really work or not.

Keyword Research Secrets

Postby silvrsentinel » Wed May 13, 2009 5:15 pm

Its good to use a number of keywords research tools which gives me a 3 dimensional view of a niche. Potential traffic is only a part of the equation, even the number of competing websites can throw you off.

You can have a large number of websites in a niche yet still easily get a top first page position in record time. It really depends how established and optimized the sites are in your niche.

Alternatively you can have few websites in your niche but if they are well established and highly optimized you could find it extremely hard obtaining a favourable SERP.

Checking backlinks

Postby silvrsentinel » Sun May 17, 2009 8:00 pm

You just go to Google and type link:www.yourdomain.com

Of course you type your own personal domain in place of 'your domain'.

I also this site http:seopro.com.au

Keep in mind that results are not exactly accurate but can be used as a guide to see how much backlinking you will need to obtain top Google positions for your keywords. Also it depends on your on page SEO and quality of backlinks as to how much backlinking will be necessary.

Hope I have helped!

I learned that each keyword phrase should be getting a least 500 searches a day to get enough traffic to make sales once you get to the first page of google. You should really strive to get into the top 5 as well.
