I'm looking for tracking software that can keep those two items separate depending on which page the visitor enters on. That sounds confusing to me - let me build the scenario:
There are five different website entry pages in which mr. public can access the site. All five of those pages are linked to a common page whre mr.public can choose a product page. mr. public #1 enters from pageA and mr.public#2 enters from pageB. both purchase products from the 'common" shared products page. i need software that tells me that mr. public#1 purchased through pageA and mr. public #2 purchased through pageB.
This sounds really stupid, but i don't know how else to put it.
What software can generate this type of report for me?

I use Clickalyzer for detailed statistics:
http://www.clickalyzer.com
You can follow their "trail" depending on entry page, or any other number of variables - very extensive.
