Hi,

I want to have a contact me button on my website, but I'm not sure what to use. If I just have a link to an email address it will surely get swamped with junk mail. Should I use a contact me form, and if so can someone recommend somewhere to get the code for one, or is there someway I can just leave my email address on the site without some pesky robots picking it up and spamming me?

There are a couple ways to protect yourself from spambots. One is Javascript, but there is concern that they will start picking those up anyhow.

Another is by blocking the spambots entirely using .htaccess.

Thanks for that. I think I will use the Javascript for now as I don't really know about the access stuff.

Actually - Javascript can be disabled.

This wouldn't be a feasible solution as the *only* solution IMHO is simply to embed your email address in a scripting language such as PHP, ASP, or another Server Side script. (you can see the contact form on each of my websites - notice no email addresses anywhere). The reason this is effective is because you cannot read the coding of PHP,ASP or server side scripts from your browser.

Spambots are getting smarter and even the "encryption" can easily be decrypted by most crawlers, but they cannot *read* the server side scripting language so your email address will be safe and sound.

If you need a good contact form script, I would suggest looking for a PHP mailer on hotscripts.com or you can PM me and I'd be more than happy to send you the script I use for my contact forms.
