.htaccess file missing. Can anyone help pl?

Hi folks,

I'm having serious problem with one of my sites. When a contact form is filled in the site, server is asking for a password and redirecting to an error page. When i ran the server health check, this is what it reports.

"Cannot open ".htaccess": no such file or folder. "

Please somebody help me resolve this, before i go

and a little more info about how you created this form,
are you supposed to have a htaccess file that relates to this form for some reason?

is the page the form is on supposed to be password protected?

do you have any kind of redirect going on for the pages on your server or for domain names, etc.?
