question on learning HTML and web design

Hello!

I would like to learn HTML and web design. I like computers but I just haven't gotten around to doing this. I welcome any book or website recommendations that anyone has to offer.

I ordered HTML for Dummies and I signed up for a HTML class at Universal Classes. I figured I'd start with that.

I hired a web designer to create my Christmas site and she is just lovely, but ideally I would like to be able to create my own websites, at least mostly on my own.

Do you already have an HTML Editor, or a web design program? A lot of people use and love Dreamweaver, some like Frontpage. Both are popular enough to find tons of free tutorials on the web too

I'm honestly not sure about that CS3 etc - I've been using Dreamweaver so long I dont have the "latest greatest version" - but what I have is called "Macromedia Dreamweaver MX" if that helps.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their very knowedgeable advice -- I sit at the feet of the masters! lol. I bought my first domain name and later this week I'll sign up with a hosting service. My plan is to work on the website over the weekend.

I feel so lucky to have such helpful people to turn to. This is a wonderful forum. A friend suggested I check it out and I am so glad that I did -- this forum is motivating me to move forward with my ideas! A thousand thank yous to all of you!!!!!!
