Graphics Don't Show On Website

Postby Tommy Sessions » Mon Jun 16, 2003 5:29 pm

:( Hii, Guy! Well, since my last post I have learned a little bit about building a website.
I have it on the web, not ready for se, but for me to look at and send anyone that wants to look at it.
I have a problem, therefore, a question.
My .gifs don't show up. All that's there is the little box with the red x [x]
They all show up in FrontPage while I'm viewing in Preview, or even when
I preview in browser. But not in "real life."
Any ideas :?:
P.S. Lynn, thank you for setting this site up. I really appreciate it. :D

Hey Tommy...

What is your web site URL?

I see that if I get the name wrong for my images, or I have it pointing
at my hard drive instead of my web address.

Also if it is pointing at the wrong folder.

gifs don't work

Postby Tommy Sessions » Mon Jun 16, 2003 5:51 pm

Hello James!
Thanks for responding. Sorry bout leaving the url off.
It's www.badcaragain.com
I think I pointed them all in the right direction, but then, I have made
other mistakes (not manny, though)
If you want to take a look, Thanks.
You might see something in the "source" that will help.
I'll go check it...no, wife wants me to finish mowing the yard!
I'll check it later.
Thanks Again.

Do you by chance have your images in a seperate folder.

I noticed that a couple of your images show but they are in the root
folder of your web site.

images don't show

Postby Tommy Sessions » Mon Jun 16, 2003 6:41 pm

No, they're all in the same folder.
I did notice that the smiley w/shades is a "copy of" and the popcorn box
is also. Although, one of the smilies did appear at "About Me" but the one at the end of "too fast" didn't.
None of the divider bars shows, nor does the monkey at the top-left.
Ok. What is a "root" folder?

Hello again Tommy

Postby James Mann » Mon Jun 16, 2003 6:59 pm

Your root folder is wher you homepage index.html file is.

The only other thing I can think of is case sensitve filenames.

Are your filename using any upper case letters.

in your source code they are all in lowercase.

I noticed that your first two images in your menu have one or two
uppercase letters and %20 which equals a space.

Check the images and see if there is more to the name.

I am stumped here Tommy.

I know the "stumped" feeling. That's why I had to change host service.
The other one gave up on my because I couldn't get the site to upload.
Where would the homepage index.html file be located?
Everything is in small letters. The two links have the first letters caps, but they work.
Thanks for telling me what the %20 stands for.
Richard, with Bitshack.com hosting, told me to eliminate all the stuff in
front of the images: ie:img src="../badcaragain%20web%20page/Working/monk7.gif etc.
He said just put img src="monk7.gif etc.
I even tried that just a minute ago.
I don't understand why it will work on the FP program and not on the web.
When I pull up ws_ftp I can highlight index.htm and hit execute and it will
work just fine. But when I upload it, it looses the images, as you could
see, not all of them though.
Grimlens! That's what it is.
Thanks for your help. And, if you think of something else, I'll be here...
my wife left, my dog hates me cause I won't play ball with him, my children curse me cause they can't call home...I got the phone tied up.
P.S. My wife only went to a church activity. :)

Okay...

I think what is happening is your FTP program has not uploaded all your
images.

I don't use frontpage but locate the files that you have on your web page
and up load the individually and then check to see if the work.

If your ftp program did not up load them you would see them from
frontpage but you would not see them when you view your web site
online.

Yes, I added each one to the right side of the ftp. Anyway, the smilie with the sunglasses shows in one place, but not the other.
I will try uploading them again. I've got two or three that I clicked copy
and transferred from one file to the one I'm using...I don't know if this
would be a problem.
But I still can't figure why one smily shows, and the other doesn't.
Must be Grimlens.

Tommy you don't have the same filename for both smileys

This is the copy that works for the smiley face:
Copy%20of%20Copy%20of%20sm12.gif

This is the one that doesn't:
../badcaragain%20web%20page/Working/sm12.gif

What it looks like is that you are copying each file instead of transferring
them.

I've done about all I can do.

What I would do is delete each image and then put them back into your
document.

You have this path that I don't think you should have:
badcaragain%20web%20page/Working/

you should only have the image name like this:
sm12.gif

You are most welcome Tommy

If that does not work for you then post again and maybe someone
else has FP experience.

I use DreamWeaver myself.

Good luck Tommy.

I threw everything out and went shopping. I bought all new furniture.
AND IT WORKED!!! :D :D
Go check it out. www.badcaragain.com
I'm too poor to buy Dreamweaver, that's why I'm using FP.
But I surely do appreciate what you did for me.
P.S. Why do I have to check the little box to log me in automatically,
every time?

It is something that a few people are having a problem with.

I have to do the same thing, but some get in fine.

So you will be happy to know it is not anything you are doing wrong. :D
