PHP and FTP

I uploaded some PHP files to my host, but I can't edit them.

Should I use FTP, which I've never used?

PHP is a programming language. I edit these type of files in a text editor.

To upload them, use FTP which is a protocol. (File Transfer Protocol).

FTP is built into your computer. You can pull up a DOS prompt and use FTP without any special program installed. Heck, you can even use FTP with Windows Explorer (not the same as Internet Explorer).

But... it might be best to use an FTP program such as Filezilla:

It sounds like a CHMOD issue. Do have CHMOD values set to 777 so you can read-write-edit? I would check that first.

I can't even open the files now.

When prompted to choose how to open them the other day, I selected "Open with WinZip". Huge mistake!

Now when I try, I get this loop from WinZip that goes nowhere.

browse my computer, on the top menu is a tools, click that, then click folder options, then file types tab.

now, find that file type and change the program associated with it from winzip to wordpad or whatever text editor you have installed.

Problem...

There's several WinZip file types listed, and when I selected just plain ol' WinZip Files at the end, the folder opened in Notepad.
