Long Island Wins is a communications campaign to shift the debate about immigrants and immigration policy on Long Island. We use a multi-faceted approach to shift the public conversation and influence public policy, including research, polling, paid media, free media, social media, blogs, messenger training, and legislative outreach. Long Island Wins is a sensible voice on immigration initiatives that benefit all Long Island residents.
Position Summary
This is a full time position for a passionate advocate, writer, journalist and hands-on Web 2.0 organizer. This position is a combination of significant blogging or print journalism experience with knowledge of online social media tools and organizing techniques. Candidates must have a real desire to “move the ball” in changing the debate around this hot button issue. We are looking for a progressive voice to take a leadership role in that debate and to help shape the success of a small but vital organization. This position reports to the Campaign Director.
Responsibilities
* Blogging – Using a well developed personal style and voice, your writing must stir controversy through blog posts. Humor and wit are necessary. We are looking for someone who writes clean, accessible news-style prose with a prolific work habit and a relentlessly inquisitive nature.
* Online Organizing – cultivating an audience and a conversation, we are looking for someone who lives and breathes Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Digg, loves to blog, comment on other people’s blogs and share, connect, learn and grow. Outreach to influential sites, blogs, developers, and organizers as we dream up, organize, execute and promote online events and special projects. Your work must be distributed diligently.
The candidate will also be skilled at tracking results of the organization’s online efforts, using metrics from web traffic, events, links, and blog activity. Experience with a digital camera and Photoshop is a plus. You must be a self-starter, but able to learn, adjust, collaborate and take direction.
