Help With Conversions

I am new to the forum and would appreciate your input. My site has been up since May. In that time I have only had 2 sales even though there have been 1630 visitors to some verison of my sales letter.

Currently, I am offering a free e-book to visitors who sign up at my landing page. Once they leave the page both the people who subscribe and those who don't are sent to my sales page at:



My conversions at my sign up page are over 25% , but I am not getting any sales .

Please review my copy on the above sales letter page and give me any suggestions that would improve my results.

Hi Doug & Welcome

I havent had an opportunity yet to look at your landing page, as I wanted to go ahead and say "welcome to the forum!" and also comment on the first thing that I noticed: the name of your landing page.

I would change the file name to something more appealing, as it's a known fact that the file name can affect conversion rates. You might call it "specialoffer.html" or "welcome.html" or something along those lines (that specifically relates to your offer, or their place in the lead-in process).

I didn't realize that people paid much attention to the url since they are being sent there automatically. But, that would certainly be an easy fix to improve conversions.

Could it be that your visitors are arriving on the site specifically to get the freebie, and are not 'buyers'? You might examine what is attracting your visitors to your site initially, and see if perhaps you are drawing freebie-seekers.

Looking at your sales letter, I might make a few initial suggestions:

- Use a template or header graphic that would appeal to chess players.
- Take "Guaranteed... Or Your Money Back!" out of the headline
- The first testimonial is too long, too large a block of text to engage a reader that soon on in the letter

With your opt-in list, you want to build a relationship with them first. You might send them tips or related information that they would obviously enjoy... and then offer your product 'softly' within those emails.

Every 3rd or 4th mailing, you might discuss your book - the features, or specifically the benefits to the reader. You can try offering a special too of course.

If you have no conversions after awhile, try offering a different (related) product that you are an affiliate for... to see if it is your list, or your product, that isnt converting.

After my subscribers opt-in they are taken to the above sales letter. The Chess Rules Handbook they signed up for is delivered by a link on an e-mail from my autoresponder.

I am particularly interested in how I could improve my copy. Could you be more specific on how it could be refined? Also, how would you change the headline.
