A Lesson In Humility

Postby michaelh » Wed Jul 15, 2009 8:53 am

I was walking down a steep street in my local town this morning, and I was feeling a little sorry for myself because I had had a couple of let-downs lately.
I looked up and saw a little hunched up old man struggling up the incline. He was cheerily greeting everyone he passed "Hola, Bon Dia!", whether he new them or not. As we reached each other he greeted me in the same way with a toothy smile, and thats when I was struck with a dose of humble pie.
This old man looked as if he was carrying the troubles of the world on his back, yet he had the character to light up strangers lives for a few seconds!
I immediately snapped out of my temporary reverie and walked on with a smile on my face and compassion in my heart thanks to a little old man.
Now, I will remember the old man whenever I feel a dose of self-indulgence coming on!
