Hidetext.net lets you convert text to an image. This means you can hide passwords, personal messages, pieces of code, or any kind of private information on forums, blogposts, emails, irc, msn-aim chats,....

This would be really handy in the appraisal or legal section of the forum.. it'd be nice if there were a VB plugin that did this automatically so the posts wouldn't get indexed.

first, this is not a VB board. it is phpbb

also, google etc. can only see whatever a guest sees on a board.

therefore, if you do not want google and other guests to see what it on that board, then do not allow guests access.

my opinion is that if you do not want something spread all over the net, then do not put it online.

If you must, then something like this might help.
however, the spammers can read images very easily with OCR type scripts.

that is why the "captcha" type images that you have to fill in when you register on boards, do not work any longer.

I post regularly on a domain related forum with an appraisal section that is indexed by Google as are posts on many forums I visit. In the case of appraisals, you may not want Google indexing the fact you've asked for an appraisal on a domain you own.

You can also use this tool to post your email without the risk of it being indexed or spidered by bots (for example).

well, like I said, if you are posting information that you don't want the public ( google) to know about, then you should not be posting them in an open/public forum/blog. That is just silly.

also, if the email bot is a serious one. then the image will not keep it from getting the email address. the serious "harvester" type bots can read images using OCR technology.

( not trying to be argumentative here, just discussing/debating. )

by the way, most of the forums here on this board are indexed by google on a regular basis. Lynn wants that of course.

so, if you do not want what you post to be seen by google and the rest of the world, then don't post it here.

phpBB, and most other bulletin board software, allows you to make each forum viewable by guests ( google ) or not.
you can set it to where the forum title is viewable by guests but the topic s are not , you can set it so that only people in certain groups can view/read/post, etc.

but guests only see what guests are allowed to see and that includes any search engine.
