The greatest guitar moment of all time did not take place in a concert hall, or a studio, or on a stage. I can remember the greatest guitar momemt of all time very clearly.
It was 1979, on the campus of Kansas State University, Marlatt dormitory, 5th floor, the commons area. There was a keg party and dance being held on the floor.
Sitting in one corner of the room was a rather heavy, dare I say FAT, blonde haired guy, with a guitar. Just a simple acoustic guitar. But what talented fingers, as he strummed that guitar, one by one, the prettiest girls at the party moved closer and closer to him.
After that evening, I can never remember this particular rather large, unassuming man, being without a date, and they were always very pretty, and very excited to be with him.
Now that's a powerful performance....that's also the night that everyone of us other guys on that floor desperately wished we knew how to play guitar.
