Myself, I tend to use some basic header graphics and change the text. BUT I can do the basics with PhotoShop, which I have but do NOT understand fully.
If you are comfortable with your graphics person, then why not let them try to put together a couple of headers based on your subject matter and see how they are. Many times they do a good job and once you see them you can figure out some changes beyond the original that might work oiut for you.
