I just started using it last month (or maybe it was end of Sept) on one of my other sites (an affiliate site) and so far I am pleased with the results. Glad to hear you got your first check already - keep that income rolling in! ;)

I haven't signed up for Yahoo's program yet. If I signup, do I have to use a site that isn't using Adsense on it?

I think it's fine as long as you don't put AdSense and YPN on the same page. You can have AdSense on some pages and YPN on others and see how they work out for you.
