Has anyone done tests as to what is the best place to add Adsense on your web page?

A skyscaper on left or right, a horizontal on top or bottom?

I just signed up and are experimenting with AdSense.

So far many page impressions but no clicks.

If I place an Adsense horizontal ad on top before the content will it affect SEs spidering the site or have an affect on rankings?

Hi Lyn,

Well, I took the plunge and included adsense ads on all my article pages as an experiment (after reading Ken Envoys' articles).

Results so far: 238 impressions for 3 days - O clicks

As you can see, it's not going well so far, but then I am using the 468x60 banner across the top (it was the easiest to implement).

I'll give it a little longer then try some skyscraper ads to see if they do any better. If not I'll probably take them ALL down.

My concerns:

Can't track which page yields clicks - just shows total no of clicks.
Ads are often of competing sites

Any other ideas how to improve Clickthroughs?

Hi,

Were the displayed ads relevant to the content of your individual pages?

Three things could be the course of irellevant ads:

1) The AdSense spider hasn't been by yet, so Google is only showing cahrity ads.

2) The AdSense spider has been by, but didn't grasp the theme of your individual pages.

3) The AdSense spider has been by, but haven't got targeted (enough) ads for your type of content.
