What is pay-per-action advertising?

Postby jaggiegill » Mon Jul 02, 2007 5:09 pm

Pay-per-action advertising is a new pricing model that allows advertisers to pay only when specific actions that they define are completed by a user on their site. Rather than paying for clicks or impressions, advertisers can choose to pay when a user makes a purchase, signs up for a newsletter, or completes any other clearly defined action that they choose.

Pay-per-action ads are eligible to appear on publisher sites in the Google content network, and publishers can choose specific pay-per-action ads that are relevant to their site to run in new ad units that they create.

Has anyone signed up for the Pay-Per-Action (beta) program, it seems like a great alternative to normal marketing methods out there. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated.

Also called Pay-per-lead or pay-per-sale. I assume you are referring specifically to the new addition of CPA options to Google Adsense? I blogged about this last June at:

My conclusion on it was this:

Personally, I would rather stick to promoting Affiliate Programs directly. I know what I am promoting, what I will be paid, and can presell the product through my content. It would seem to me that this is a much better option than using a CPA model through Adsense, where you have no control over which products or which ads will be displayed alongside your content.
