Content sources

I have an idea for a website on a topic that I truly enjoy. I must admit I don't know about it as much as I would like.

I can sit down and research it, but feel it would take too long to do.

My other option could be to use articles from various sources to create content for a website. I'm interested to hear everyones opinion.

I guess you need to think about the aims of the site.

Is it purely for self-satisfaction/enjoyment or is your goal to make money?

If the latter, what do you see as your ROI for putting all this content together? Does this justify your time in assembling the information?

Just a few questions to be going on with...

The purpose of the site is to make money through affiliate programs.

I have a couple of ideas for content. the one I'm thinking about now is how to play poker, hosting a poker party, things of that nature. Since poker can become very complicated quickly. I'd want to get hold of some of some articles by experienced poker players.

I imagine this certainly has potential given the revenue that can be gleamed from this and associated industries. (Words like 'casino' and 'gambling' are some of the highest bidded on the likes of Overture, and there's a reason for that! )

My reservation would be that you are presumably dealing with a very competitive market and you need to think about what your USP (unique selling point) is. Having information about hosting poker parties, etc. I would guess isn't unique enough. I'm assuming that kind of content is already out there. You need something else that will set you aside if you really want to make a success of it.
