The fastest way to get indexed is to get links from other sites. Link from a blog that's already indexed, build a Squidoo lens and link to it, add it to your various forum signatures, use the URL when you comment on other blogs etc...

Also, never ever submit your site to Google. You'll end up in their "sandbox" rather than simply letting the Google spider do what it was made to do.

Create excellent content-filled pages that center around high-demand, low-supply keywords. Remember your Title, Keywords and Description META tags, using that page's keyword and some long-tail stuff. Add the keyword sparingly through your page and you're good to go.

Or.....

Use Site Build It like I do and forget everything I just said! :D

Hehe. Not doomed as long as you have good content, but it will take longer. No worries.

JUST NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!!!

We all were at one time, so don't feel bad.

It only makes natural sense that if there is a place to submit your site to Google, you are supposed to, right?

Who knew it wasn't such a great idea after all?

Live and learn.

It's so funny, I keep telling hubby to stop submitting all his sites to Google but he keeps on doing it. He does however come up quick in the SE's so he must be doing something right. I'll stick with SEO myself as that is what Lynn has taught me all along *wink*

You can get indexed fairly quickly by starting a blog and posting to it regularly.

Get some keywords

Post some content based around those keywords

Ping every post you make at http://www.Pingoat.com

Repeat

You can even take your blog post and turn it into an article and submit it to article directories everywhere.

Post comments in high traffic blogs in your niche as well.

The more backlinks you have coming into your website the better.

Great tips, John!

I didn't know about the pinging site and I never thought about making some of my blog posts into full articles either. Learn something new every day!

If you're using Wordpress to blog chances are you are automatically pinging. Check your ping list in your WP Dashboard before you try to ping anything manually. Overpinging can get you in trouble sometimes.

To update your ping list:

Login into your WP Dashboard
Go to Settings
Select Writing from the subnav and scroll down to the bottom of that page.
It will say
Update Services

When you publish a new post, WordPress automatically notifies the following site update services. For more about this, see Update Services on the Codex. Separate multiple service URLs with line breaks.

below that will be a scroll box listing the sites you ping automatically every time you make a blog post.

My Gadget Blog, for example, is pinging:
http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2
http://api.feedster.com/ping
http://api.moreover.com/ping
http://api.moreover.com/RPC2
http://blog.goo.ne.jp/XMLRPC
http://blogdb.jp/xmlrpc/
http://coreblog.org/ping/
http://ping.blo.gs/
http://ping.bloggers.jp/rpc/
http://ping.cocolog-nifty.com/xmlrpc
http://ping.syndic8.com/xmlrpc.php
http://ping.weblogalot.com/rpc.php
http://pinger.blogflux.com/rpc
http://rpc.blogrolling.com/pinger/
http://rpc.icerocket.com:10080/
http://rpc.pingomatic.com/
http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping
http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2
http://topicexchange.com/RPC2
http://www.blogdigger.com/RPC2
http://xping.pubsub.com/ping
http://api.my.yahoo.com/rss/ping
http://rpc.odiogo.com/ping/

And really you don't even need that many in your ping list. If you hit Pingoat and Pingomatic you're already hitting most of the major places to ping.

Oh my Loretta, what great info. Thanks so much.

The only one in my box is pingomatic.com. So should I just go ahead and add pingoat.com?
