The money is in the relationship

Postby Michelle Waters » Tue Feb 17, 2009 9:02 pm

I completely agree with the conclusion of a post from earlier this month, that the money is in the relationship, not in the list.

This would naturally lead to the assumption that perhaps a list is not even necessary -- perhaps one can have a relationship with the people in one's RSS feed. Or one's facebook friends, or tweeps.

But what I would really like to discuss is this:

How does one go about developing a relationship with people who are on a list, reading an RSS feed or a friend on facebook?

What are your thoughts? What has worked for you?

I'd say:

Don't try and sell them something every time you email them.
Send them free useful items.
Be down-to-earth, discuss current affairs, events.
Discuss anything interesting/funny that may have happened to you.
Give some details about yourself.
and be yourself.

I'd also like to add that you should tell them exactly what they will get when they join your newsletter/mailing list and then deliver.

Hmm I read an article that talking sending a card to your prospect after the seminar. The purpose is get the prospect to remember you.

But I have another thought. I will send a thank you card to customer who bought my products or services. So that they will remember me better =.

From that on, a relationship is established.
