Is this a Good Idea?

Postby msliz » Tue Feb 17, 2009 6:05 pm

Hi Everyone!

I received a request from a link building specialist, at least that's what he titled himself, offering to place a text link on my home page and he would pay me a monthly fee for it.

The text link is relevant to what my site is about and the site being linked to is also a relevant site, however I'm curious as to what you all may think about this or if you have any words of wisdom for or against such an offer.

Anyone have experience with this? :?

I would be very leary of this offer.

How is he going to place a text link on your home page?

The other site may be relevant, but who owns it, what's it about and is it a site you want to be associated with?

Does the site offer information, services or products that you would personally recommend to your readers?

If not, then run the other way.

Instead of worrying about a random "link building specialist" you need to start your own list of services, products and information that you want to link to. And a list of sites that you would like to work on getting a link from. This, of course, is just a starting point.

Hi Michelle,

Actually the link does offer services and products that I would personally recommend to my readers. I also do have a list of services, products and information that I link to, but I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with this sort of offer and if there are any negetive effects that anyone can think of.

Thanks :-)

I would consider it if the rate was a decent advertisement rate. You would still need to check it out though, is it just a link or is it a javascript code?

Just a small two word text link. The only draw back is it will draw traffic away from my site, much like Adsense ads do but I'm not getting a bad rate so I might consider it.

Thanks for your input :)

can you target the link so that it opens in a new window when someone clicks on it? That way your site will still be open after the visitor has viewed that link

I agree with Michelle. Be careful of who you place on your homepage and check this company out. If a company you decide to place on your home page has a bad reputation etc, this could directly affect your business and you wouldn't want that.
