Quality Links are very important if you want your web pages to get indexed and to rank well in the major search engines. They are also a great source of targeted traffic themselves.

You should submit your URL(s) to relevant directories and resource pages, and also write & submit articles that contain your link(s) in the byline. These are a good start to getting some links pointing to your pages without going through the tedious process of exchanging links manually.

I would never pay someone to exchange links or submit my site to the search engines. The most effective way to get your site recognized and ranked at a solid position would be to submit your site to as many directories you can find out there. It will be more profitable if you do this rather than exchanging links with someone else.

If you want to kick it up a notch try article marketing. Many people earn fortunes just by submitting their articles to the major directories such as Ezinearticles, Goarticles, Article Base etc. This can be a great alternative to link exchanging which is a big hassle if you ask me. Marketing yourself as a professional using articles is a great way to get a targeted audience with a little amount of effort. I wont even start telling you about the Search Engine rankings you'll get with articles because it is awesome. Try it out!
