Hi,

Would starting a static blog or website about wild animals be a way to earn an income with adsense? For example, I'm interested enough to research and write a few articles about animals such as polar bear, elephants, and so on. I'd prefer to learn about something that I have a reasonable interest in.

First you would need to research the keywords associated with that niche. Start broad "animals" and work your way down to specifics such as "bears" and "tigers". Look at the number of searches - this will indicate the traffic potential.

Next, take the keywords you choose to work with, and type them into Google. How few/many Adwords are running for the phrases will tell you what kind of competition there is among advertisers for those keywords.

The more competition between advertisers, the higher the payout via Adsense. Little competition equals low payout.
