I'm having a hard time trying to figure out how MySql works and how it is supposed to be installed. I've been reading tech docs, but can anyone put it in plain English?

How do I run it on my website?

Hi Karen,

Most web hosts offer mysql pre-installed, and you just have to create the database. So you may want to check your hosting control panel. I assume you are trying to run a particular program or script on your server - perhaps if you let us know what it is, we can offer more help on the installation or set-up.

Make sure your Web hosting package comes with at least one mySQL dB. Then just create a database with a password and then create a user for that database with the same name and password to keep it easy. Incidentally, what are you trying to install? (ie. phpBB, phpNUKE, etc.) My Web host NEXCESS.NET provides an invaluable Online tutorial for setting up mySQL databases and the sort. Setting them up on your Web host will probbaly be slightly different but the principles are the same.

OK ... first ... tell where are you trying to get this installed ...

If you are trying to get this installed in a web hosting account, it doesn't work that way. You need to get a web hosting that has MySQL.

If you are trying to install it on your own server or localhost (I do this as test development environment), then I can help. Just need to know what you are facing with rig
