First SSL's are overrated, they are not as secure as you think.

All you need to do here is put a SSL on the main domain yourdomain.com, and it will automatically transfer to operating on sub.yourdomain.com and any other domain.yourdomain.com as long as you have https://sub.yourdomain.com it will be secure.

Are you working with cpanel or some other control panel system. If cpanel this is a breeze.

A special type of SSL certificate known as a 'Wildcard' certificate caters specifically for services distributed across a number of sub domains. RapidSSL wildcard and Business ID wildcard from Geotrust at an economical price with great pricing options are good solutions to your needs. Getting them for your subdomains will be a good way to secure communications.

never needed 1 to do it, but if you want a simple solution that fits specific to sub-domains then this is the way to go.

If you can code or know linux well, (or windows) you can modify the cert, and it will cover all sub-domains anything on the main (yourdomain.com).
