FTP ASAP, OK??

Postby WAHumor » Wed Sep 22, 2004 3:57 pm

It SEEMS simple enough...

I need to upload some .exe files to my site and offer them by email and my newsletter.

Simple, right??

All I need to know is...HOW???

I admit complete ignorance in this matter.

Is there anybody who can explain this understandably?

Hello Dan,

I'm going to try and offer you a feasible answer - hopefully I understood the question correctly

You can simply upload the .exe to a directory on your webserver - if you are using cpanel, sign into your account and click on "file manager" the click on the folders and navigate to the directory you want the .exe to be - then click on "upload files" link and upload :)

When you want to distribute your ebooks, give out an absolute path link, i.e.:
yoursite.com/ebook/directory/ebook.exe

When they click it will automatically download to their computer.

If you want to FTP, it depends on the software you're using...but it's pretty much the same thing...

Hope that helps - if not, let me know and I'll try to explain it better

K, remember...you're dealing with an Interidiot here.

Whenever someone mentions CGI, I start fantasizing about Marg Helgenburg.

I understand I'm looking for a directory on my webserver. Would that be my webhost?

I'll poke around a little and see if I find what you're talking about...I think I juuuuust might.

Children, beware! This is what happens to you when you go to college for too long.

Or at all...

ROFL - you're pretty funny there :)

As for Interidiot - you do know what Internet Explorer is don't you? Then there are folks worse off than you in that respect ;)

When I say webhost, I mean the people you purchase your hosting from, they usually give you a link to sign into your account such as:

http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel (if they use cpanel) or
http://www.yourdomain.com:2082 (again usually port 2082 is for cpanel)

sign in with your uid and your password and you're good to go - follow my instructions from there

file manager => public_html
public_html => this is your root directory - where your index.html should be

create any other folders you may need to (for instance, if you want to keep your ebooks seperate) - click on "create folder" and type in a name, then click on that folder when it's created - click on "upload files" and you can upload, I believe 12 files at a time.

:) - any better?
