Subdomain vs new domain for blog related to main site

Postby RKramkowski » Mon Jun 02, 2008 9:01 am

Hi, I'm not sure whether this goes in this topic or not, but here goes....

I have a website that is oriented toward selling a narrow, specific set of products. If I were to set up a blog related to the products I'm selling, am I better off with a new domain, a subdomain, or a subdirectory?

I think I know that a new domain or subdomain allows each to have its own keywords, etc. so I'm leaning toward one of those two over a subdirectore.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

A subdomain will work just fine.
However, just FYI, on most servers, subdomains are just like an alias that points at a subdirectory on your server.

http://subdomain.yourdomain.com

really just points to;

http://yourdomain.com/subdomain

If the products you are selling are what the rest of your site is about, then I would think that you would not want a separate domain name for the blog. I would simply install it on the server, either in a subdomain or just simply in a directory of it's own witout a subdomain.

I agree with robert.

I'd like to build blog from subdomain if the blog would be related to the site. Especially for update news of your main site.
