When waiting for the domain to expire and picking it up then, you have to be fast.
One of my domains (that I didn't want to renew) was picked up by one of these domain-grabbing companies that just put up sponsored listings from google adsense, affiliate suff etc.

You Searched For: yourdomainname.here
They only needed a few days to recognize that the domain was available.
