Dealing with Forum Spammers?

I don't allow self promotional posts on my forum, but do allow people to post links. I have a "read this before posting" and some people honestly don't see it or don't understand how forums work. For them I will post a nice reply and possibly edit the message for them.

If it's obviously spam it gets deleted, period.

But what about the usernames? I can delete the messages but there's usernames that are registered that still have links going to these spammy sites. How do you delete users in phpbb? Or should I even be worrying about this and just leave them there?

What do you think? How do you handle forum spammers?

I no longer run on a phpBB forum, but from what I remember, you CAN ban them from even viewing the forum... or was it just logging in? Either way, after banning them, edit their signature and remove it.

I think it's great what you're already doing - moderating the posts and deleting them as necessary. I do that in my forum as well. I haven't received any spammers, so I'm happy about that. "Knock on wood," lol.

You can go into the Admin panel, the manage members section, put in their username... and delete their account
