Forum types - threaded or phpBB-style?

Postby Mindy » Wed Jul 13, 2005 1:24 pm

I have a question about types of forums. I have an idea for a new forum website that I anticipate won't be extremely high traffic, but will get a consistent flow, and the visitors may or may not be web savvy. What are your thoughts on the different types of forums? Are threaded forums, like http://www.auctionhints.com/message/webbbs_config.pl? , out of style? Or should I stick with what I know, phpBB?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Hi Mindy,
I would stick with phpBB..
From what I know, webBBS stores the data in a text file. I believe MySQL is much more secure than a text file stored in your web space.. and also webBBS isn't free..but phpBB is :)

With phpBB you can do more things by adding plugins and hacks..
If you have some budget, I would go with vBulletin

I myself really like the phpbb style of forums and I LOVE that they are free to use!!
