Finally got my forum up and running

Postby Monna Ellithorpe » Wed Feb 16, 2005 11:21 am

After much frustration and not much help from the phpBB forum, I persevered and got my forum up and running and also put up a second one this morning.

One is a paid membership discussion forum and the public one is for BBW/BHM (Big Beautiful Women and Big Handsome Men) to post their profiles on.

I got so sick and tired of finding nothing but pornographic sites concerning larger women and men, that I decided to create a forum for the larger person to feel more comfortable visiting. I will be closely monitoring both forums because I do not want it to turn into a pick up site or a place for a "quickie" so to speak.

My intention is to create a place for people who are serious about finding a lasting relationship, like I am.

Thanks for listening to me ramble on.

Congrats! I'm glad to hear you got them working :D

Keep us posted as to how the forums are going - and let us know if you run into anything you could use some help on along the way!

Thanks.

One thing I haven't quite figured out yet. I would like to add a link back to the main site on the forums, but I am not quite sure which file it is that I need to edit to add that...since there are so many files in phpBB.

Also, is it a good idea to add AdSense to forums?

If so, do I add that code on the same page as I would to add a home page link?

Do you want to add it to the tops of each page (headers) on the forum, or the bottoms (footers)? What you do is go into your root directory and find the folder where you set up the forum (mine is called "forum", for example - you see that in the URL in the address bar).

Then go into > templates > subSilver (if that is the template you are using)

Make sure you are in plain text or ascii mode, and open the overall_header.tpl and overall_footer.tpl . These are the files you will edit to affect the header and the footer across every page of the forum.

Be sure to make a backup copy of those files before you begin editing, so that you can restore the original files should you need to ;)

Thanks Lynn as usual.

I definitely have been looking in the wrong files.
