Forum Posting Peeves and Tips - Add Yours

Postby Kit Singleton » Tue Jul 08, 2008 8:28 am

One of my pet (forum) peeves is when people add long url links in posts. You know the kind I mean - the ones that stretch the template until it makes you scroll horizontally.

If this just affected that one post I don't think it would bother me so much; however, it usually warps the whole thread. This means that you have to scroll to read everything in the thread.

So, I thought I'd post this little tip to help online newbies make the most of posting on forums:

To make your link easy to see and increase the chance that people will click on it, hyperlink your desired url to a word or phrase that describes what the link is.

For example, if you wanted to link to Lynn's FAQ in a post, your link would look something like this inside your posting area:

Code: Select all
Check out the FAQ.

From a reader's perspective, it would look like this after the post was submitted:

Check out the FAQ.

What is your pet peeve and what is your forum posting tip?
