Open office is pretty easy to use from what i gathered in the time I had it and was using it. I had to delete it though because it is a rather large program and since I need my Micorosoft Office more, I had to keep that, and don't have the space on my laptop for both. So I just found a free online pdf converter and that is what I use now for making my ebooks.

I personally just use ms word , open office will do, then I go to print to and use primopdf. If you are in need of producing an ebook that mac and pc users alike can open then I suggest you jump on over to www.createpdf.adobe.com

For first time e book publishers I would suggest you pay attention to the security settings as well. You want to make it impossible to edit, or copy and paste from your ebook, printing option is up to you. The only exception would be if you were selling a version that could be rebranded with rebrand rights or resell rights.

it is a free service I found online that you can just upload your word doc to the system and they convert it for you into a pdf for free.

If you have too many to do, you may have to pay the $9.95 a month. But I have not found I needed to yet.

Was not thinking of some one taking my work, hummmm ok now that you mentioned it how do I protect myself.

So if I want to give it away what is the approach, make it into a pdf and then what, how do I get it to people,

do I leave it on a page hidden or something or must they request for it and send them a link to it .... ..

You will want to set your security so that they cannot edit, copy, paste the file, if you do not want them to be able to print you will also not allow printing.

Make sure you have a good page at the end concerning your copyright and all rights reserved information.

There is a service called payloadz that if you have paypal it integrates and has all you need to get digital product secured, ready for download and the file gets sent after the payment is received and clear.

Hope this helps
