Initial "niche market" ideas?

Hi Lee,

I think you could use Overture.com's free keyword search tool to see how many searches there are for "inspirational quotes," "motivational quotes," "religious quotes," and so forth. Then also use the bid tool to see if other sites are paying much for those keywords. If they are NOT, that may mean that, even though lots of people may be searching for those terms, those people may not be willing to pay anything for them. Popular terms aren't always profitable ones.

I believe there are many web sites that already offer free quotations, so it may be a difficult niche for an ebook to make money.

But I'm fairly new to Internet Marketing, so please just take this as my personal opinion, and certainly not "expert advice."

Hi Lee,

You could create a survey using and then send the link to the survey either to your existing email list, or to any clergy that you know. Ask the two ministers that you mentioned to forward this email to their friends and thus get more responses. Ask questions to find out what they are looking for in such a book -- just quotations, stories, scripture, etc. if they would buy it, and if so what price.

Also keep in mind that ministers do buy a lot of books, but at some point they get selective on what they are willing (or able) to pay for. So the market for this book would need to include lay people as well.

As Lynn mentioned you could offer this as a freebie instead. I think you should probably decide first what your motivation and goals are for publishing the book. That will probably answer some of the questions for you.

Thanks again for your suggestions, folks.

Purpose? Hmmm... The initial thought was two-fold: (1) sales; and (2) a possible need that I would enjoy meeting.

If it was sales, I had thought about adding material so that it was "more than just quotes" type of thing: articles, pages to journal, life-development questions, etc.

Taking it all in ... one more time LOL!
