Be glad, she asked you at least. Who knows how many people just give it away without your knowledge. The special discount, you offered, is a smart solution to keep everybody happy.

Do you use a list, people can subscribe to, for updates and additional info and such? If so, compare the recipients with the people who purchased your book. Then you might get an idea, how many people just copied it.

If I am not mistaken, there is a way to lock illegal book files. But I am not familiar with this technique, though. Maybe someone else can help you out.

I think your offer was a very good solution.

White Knight Protector is one such software program that will protect your ebook from illegal electronic distribution. Unfortunately, there is no protection available from keeping someone from making physical copies and distributing them....except a court of law.

Hi Rose,

Definitely a smart solution. What I normally do is also add a note in the ebook itself to entice anyone who has it to register it i.e. sign up to one of my lists for a free goodie. That way, even if I lose out on a sale, I get a subscriber whom I can followup with other goodies
