Try this and i bet you're conversion rates go up (no guarantees of course)...

Get the opt-in page to display much higher and definitely "above the fold" (i.e. on the first screenfull before scrolling).

Put the optin box to the right with bullets to the left of it displaying the benefits of joining the newsletter.

Ironically squeezepage2 that you have would be the easiest one to modify to fit this format.
