::: What Percentage Should Go To The Affiliate? :::

Hello Forum-Mates,

Just wanting to get some info from you and from both sides of the affiliate marketing industry.

1.) If YOU are selling a SERVICE for $49.00, what percentage would you deem fair to give to your affiliates?

a.) If you are the affiliate for a SERVICE that sells for $49.00, what percentage would you deem fair to receive?

2.) If YOU are selling an INFO-PRODUCT (eBook) for $49.00, what percentage would you deem fair to give to your affiliates?

a.) If you are the affiliate for an INFO-PRODUCT (eBook) that sells for $49.00, what percentage would you deem fair to receive?

Then for those of you "In The Know" what are the current industry standards for the above scenarios?

We just want to get a more informed overall picture of the current affiliate marking landscape, since the one we currently have is pretty outdated.

Thank you!

Your Friends,

Sharon & Roy

In your original question, you asked how much for 'a service' not 'the service'. I don't mean to be pedantic but this didn't imply that you were referring to a specific SEO service, but instead to services in general. Different services have different overheads and different margins.

You should think about promoting an affiliate program just like promoting a company or website.

What does this mean?
- First of you need to research other sites that offer a similar service or product to yours. When you find sites that does offer similar services or products to yours and they offer an affiliate program, check the amount of commission that they pay to their affiliates and see when they pay their affiliates and also whats their minimum payout.

Do that for about 10 - 20 sites, and you'll have some sort of an idea of what commission you should give to your affiliates and when to pay them plus how much they should reach before getting paid.

If you did find that they all offer about 30% commission, then try and make yours better by giving your affiliates 40%. If you can't do that because of costs, then do something else that your competitiors don't. Like you could pay your affiliates weekly, if your competitors pay their affiliates monthly. You could pay your affiliates with a lower minimum payout to what most of your competitors pay, etc.

In business and in life, I honestly believe in "The more you give, the more you recieve". That said, I think giving your affiliates, or downline sales folks more cash incentives provides the best answer. Sure, maybe I could be wrong, but it seems I would rather have 30 great affiliates at 60% commision, then 90 so so affiliates at 30%.

Greed is a wicked thing that will destruct many businesses. It seems only fair to give a affiliate the larger end of the deal if they were the one who made the sale. Almost anyone can write ebooks and pump out product like crazy, but who cares if you cannot sell it....... This is the hardest part, and therefore the seller should receive the larger commision. Sure your salesletter was part of the sale, but if you honestly want to make profits in life,
give money away. When you stoke out your affiliates, they in return are more than happy to help you make cash as well.

Aloha Montero's

I would guess you would have to come up with an hourly wage you feel you are worth, or the lowest amount in which you would work for.
Once you have that number set, this should dictate what you have left to pay your affiliates. Depending on the time involved I can imagine where my advice of more as opposed to less might not be wise in a service industry.

Never thought about it this way. If a guy was to book a poker lesson for me to teach for 4 hours at $100, it would be a bit tough to pay him $55. I am not too familiar with the online service industry, and was primarily thinking about products.

Good luck to you!!! :P :P
