Sure there is! Don't advertise on that keyword.

In other words, there's no automatic way to block that. I understand some like having #1 in both natural and paid listings, as it gives two chances for a visitor to click on their site, but you have to decide if that is worth paying for.

Do the suggestion above or bid in a way that will move the ad lower in the list of adwords on the page - better spot anyway than being the first PPC ad.

I don't think that really matters, especially when you can't definitely say your natural listing always be displayed on the same search result page.

My site previously on first 1 - 10 results along with my paid listing. Now its on 30 - 40 listings. So what I am saying is don't completely depend on natural listings. They just move back and forth a little bit.

If you can pay for it, go for it. Don't take out paid listing. Just this is my experience. Let us hear from others...

Actually, sometimes having a paid ad as well as a generic listing helps in getting credibility. So potential customers see that there is not just an ad but also a real website.
Otoh, what Golfer said makes perfectly sense: When you already have a page or site listed in a very good position in generic results, you can/should try to get you adwords ad into the lesser visited pages. often people who browse more than 1 page of search results are more focused than people who click on the first page only.

If you are really looking for good exposure great ROI use the Adwords latest update, the content Bidding. You can bid very low compare to search network bidding and still get the traffic.
