Adword question

Postby MommyEnterprises » Mon Sep 13, 2004 12:26 am

I am messing around with Adwords, new at it.

I have a certain campain and am going to place
like 3 different ad groups underneath.

Can I use the same keywords for these 3 different ad groups? :?: :?:

If you do, Google will rotate your Ads - they will never show more than one ad per Advertiser for the same keyword. If you want to test two different ads for the same product, you can do this within your Ad Group.

Maybe you can give us an idea of why you want three separate Ad Groups within your Campaign - is it to promote different products, bid different prices, or test different Ads, etc?

Generally, I split my keyword list into individual Ad Groups - this way I can write the most relevant ads for them...

How many keywords do you have, Stefani? If you have a fair amount, I would separate your keywords into Ad Groups. This will allow you to write an extremely relevant ad for each smaller group of keywords. And of course - write two ads for each, and split test them ;)

Right now I only have 58 keywords in which I plan to try to increase.

I thought it would be wise to use the same keywords with a couple different ads to see which ads people click more.

Right now I have over 800 impressions today and only 4 clickthroughs. No sales yet

What type of ratio should you excpect from adword promotins. 1 click per 50 impressions or what. Also how many keywords should you use. I am using a pretty broad spectrum right now and dont know if I should focus more on the more popular keywords and thats it. What do you all think.

Thanks,
Shannon

Sorry I interrupted

You have to maintain a .05% CTR (click through rate) for Google to continue displaying your Ads. The more keywords the better. The more *targeted* keywords - the better ;)

Broad keywords tend to give you a high # of Impressions, and sometimes a high CTR (not always) -but dont generally result in SALES. The more targeted keywords are your best bet - and plenty of them.

For example: business web hosting instead of web hosting - and using "free" as a negative keyword.

Stefani - you'll want to do the split-testing of Ads within the Ad Group itself. The best way to do this is to turn off Ad Optimization, as suggested above, and write two Ads. When it becomes obvious which one performs better (results in a higher CTR), you'll replace the other Ad with a new one to test against this good one. And you can keep doing this (it's called "Beat the Controller") until you figure out *exactly* what it is that the targeted market responds best to.

I have now added another ad within that same campaign. I am still trying to figure out how to turn off the Ad Optimization.

Look under "Campaign Settings"

I would recommend that you look through your keywords, and delete the ones that have 2-300 impressions but no click-through's. Make a note of them, though - you may want to set up a new Ad Group for them and test something different for those.
