How do I add sub-categories under my main category in WP?

Postby SylviaC » Mon May 18, 2009 10:37 am

I am trying to build an affiliate site in Wordpress and using the phpBay plugin. I want to list sub-categories under my main product categories in the side bar but I don't know if that can be done. For ex. if my main category was "Womens Clothing" then I would like to be able to click on that category and have a sub-category list of the types such as dresses, pants, shirts...etc.

Wordpress calls the main category a Parent Category. When you create a new category it will ask if you want to assign a Parent Category to it, in this case you would select the Womens Clothing as the parent category.

Not all free WP themes support subcategories, so you might need to play around with the design a little or change the sidebar coding in your chosen theme.

I usually opt to have the category list displayed as a drop down menu when it's going to be lengthy and contain several subcategories. They seem to display better that way.
