Wordpress questions

Postby TorontoCarol » Mon Apr 06, 2009 11:48 pm

I have two wordpress questions.

1. on one of my blogs at mugsandmegs.com the theme has a big coffee cup that is supposed to be for the RSS feed. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to add it to the theme. Not great with HTML, so the answer has to be very non-techie.

2. since the updated versions of wordpress have an audio icon above the posts when you create them, does that mean I can upload an mp3 file by clicking it? Or do I need a special plugin?

Thank you in advance for the help.

Carol - the RSS capability is already there in your theme - I could go in and add you to my reader already.

Are you wanting to change it to your Feedburner RSS or something? That would take a little digging in the code, but, wouldn't be hard....

On #2 - I haven't a clue. :)

Thanks Lisa Marie, I just want people to be able to add me to their reader, but when I click on the coffee cup it doesn't seem like anything happens. Thanks for letting me know it's okay.

I shouldn't really care since I just use this blog to keep my workshop people updated on what's going on and as a place for them to come and review the things they learned. And since they are mainly older people, they probably don't even use RSS feeds, but my picky nature couldn't have something not working properly.

Hi Carol
Yep, your coffee cup RSS feeder is already hooked up and working. I click it and get the option to subscribe to your feed. So no worries there.

Audio: yes, technically, you are supposed to be able to upload audio via the WP-admin area above the compose window and into the media area, but that only inserts a link to the file you uploaded - it doesn't insert a media player.

What I use is this audio media player plugin: http://wpaudioplayer.com/download Download & install/activate that.

Then adjust the settings for the plugin: wp-admin/Settings/Audio-Player and check the box "replace all links to mp3 files'

And that will convert the audio files you uploaded within your wp-admin area into the media gallery as an audio player in your post. :)

Oh, you know what? I just remembered JMo telling us a way to do it, as well. I think this was a way to do it on any site - blog or not... Hmm...where did I save that? *scratches chin*

Thanks Traci, that doesn't sound too hard.

Just in case you still are unsure about clicking the mug... I can't just click anywhere on the mug... you have to click the RSS logo in the middle of the mug.

And I might consider adding a text note to encourage subscribers. Some people (many?) might overlook the feed logo because it doesn't really stand out the way it is. (But I just reread your original post and realized that it may not be all that important because of who the blog is for.)

Thanks Linda,
for my own sake, good to know you have to click in the middle. The people who read that blog have no idea what an rss even is, so no worries there.
