Hi Robert,
The answer to your question depends. There are still quirks (I use that for lack of a better word) to WordPress 2.5 that many users (myself included) cannot stand.

For instance, the widgets management has gone back to the dark ages for users who don't have a bazillion sidebars and . Also, the write page has been heavily modified and those users who appreciated the configuration options of drag and drop will be sorely disappointed.

However, aside from the look and other minor aesthetic differences from its predecessors, it's still WordPress and still has all of the features it once had.

As for the plugins, actually most plugins will still work with the new version unless they add DB tables upon installation or have administration pages.

My recommendation is to install it on a test environment first, download all the plugins and themes you may want to use, and play around with it. If after a week or so, you still enjoy it, then start using it. Right now, I have about 5 blogs running WP 2.5 with other blogs on the older versions.

All of the plug ins that I use work fine with 2.5 Something to think about is Technorati is not going to be indexing wordpress blogs that are not using 2.5 soon http://technorati.com/weblog/2008/04/424.html/ So it may be worth starting with it.

I have done some intensive testing for Static Blogging so that we can go forward with update. Of the 25 or so plugins that we recommend there is only 2 or 3 that are not working properly. Even the ones with their own admin pages have caught up. Most developers have had quite a bit of time to get the plugins updated. With that said you will want to check for updates to the plugins you want to use.

As far as the look, yes it is definitely different :P , it will take some getting used to.

Hi Stacie,

Having purchased Static blogging when you first introduced it, that's good to know.

Teli, your advice is always good. I've updated my test server and will be doing some testing over the next week or so. I'v found many plugins that have either been updated to 2.5 of verified to work. So far, I haven't found too many that I need that have been verified to NOT work with 2.5.
