Wordpress.com versus Wordpress.org

Postby success1256 » Fri Apr 11, 2008 11:07 pm

:? I know it sounds elementary but, that's only because it is to me.

Here goes. What is the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org? Are they both free versions of wordpress blogging?

Can one be hosted by a web host and the other hosted on the wordpress server?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rozina

I agree with Rick. You are not allowed to monetize your blog and your options are limited.

That's changing slightly. WP.com recently put up a "" page to help clarify what kinds of blogs it will allow to use its service. To be clear, they do allow you to place certain affiliate links within your blog's content, but there is a fine line. My recommendation is to stick with your own installation of WordPress.

Also, I wrote an entry on this topic last year called which offers some more details about each, including pitfalls and benefits. :)

Nice article on wordpress Teli. Very informative. :)

Also...with wordpress.com you are not allowed to place Google ads on those.
