I personally think that if the main page and the category page only have a snipit of the article/post then your fine. Since it has other content on the page as well. Actually even if its the full article unless you only have one post on the two other pages it is not exactly duplicate content since there is other content there.

I think this is true also.
So when writing posts we should always cut the post after the first few phrases- right?
What did you think of the idea of putting manual links on the side bar and then every time we have a new post going to that page and adding on a link to our new post?

I personally don't like to have to do to much with the side bar and making links there. I think as long as every post you make is in a different category its ok.
There is a plug in that I use called Post teaser ( http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/post-teaser/ ) you can set it so its stops after so many words i think by default its 100. That way the feed has the full article. if you use the 'more' tag it breaks the feed right there as well.

I think that if duplicate content was such a huge problem, that more of the thousands and thousands of wordpress ( and other software) users would be yelling about it.
I think that all this worry about duplicate content is a bit overblown.
just my 4.5 cents worth ( had to add in some more for rising fuel costs. )

The main point here is not the duplicate content, but the duplicate work
search engines have to do. They have to spider, check and double check to
finally conclude the content is the same.
That can easily be avoided. Check out the .
