I'll add a little bit of extra explanation in case anyone else comes across this thread with a similar question.
WordPress does indeed have a built-in function that mimics a static page. Any pages created with WordPress are published outside the posts time line and will not appear in the RSS feed updates.
To create a page, click on Write -> Page from the WP admin panel. The link to the page will automatically be added to the "Pages" list in the side column of your theme if the theme author included it or if you've dragged the pages widget into the sidebar (assuming you're using widgets).
If you'd like to have a bit more control over which page links actually appear in your navigation list, there are a couple things you can do -- the first is to remove them using the , or you can install the .
