Updating WordPress Plugins

Postby gronesy » Sun Jan 13, 2008 3:18 pm

Other than dowloading the new version of a plugin and uploading it to the plugins directory in my blog what else needs to be done to update my plugins as they need it?

I searched this forum and wordpress under "update plugin" and got nothing.

pretty much that's it, do it by De-Activate the plugin then upload the new plugin files for that plugin. Then go Re-Activate that plugin.

if it don't work, re-upload the orginal file or reconfigure the new files to work with your blog.

Plugins most 90% work in upgrades, there sometimes can be problems.

So, backup your plugins, then do the upgrades 1 by 1, untill you get them all upgraded.

pm, I do wordpress upgrades, + plugins with any complication I handle it.

Thanks for the info, Chris.

I've just done a backup so I should be ready to go.

I was just checking to make sure there weren't any strange WP config internals that got wiped out when you just deactivated, replaced and reactivated a plugin.

You've totally answered my question.

yes I agree with Chris on this one

That is the way I do it as well seems to work well, as long as you de-activate it first and the re-activate again after you upload it.

You need to check this plugin out:

It's easy to install and I used it today and it worked magnificently!!!

Hi Jeff,
As Chris said, that's really all there is to it for most plugins.

NB:It's always wise, however, to read the actual upgrade instructions provided by the plugin author as some plugins will require some for of uninstallation before you upgrade.

There is an automatic plugin updater that has worked well for me...

It's called the "One Click Plugin Updater"...and it gives you a message in your Plugins section of your WP Admin area for each plugin requiring update. But the trick thing is it can, in most cases, update the plugin for you in one click of a link.

Do a search...you will find it.

Thanks Teli and Joseph!!!

I've got the plugin updater and it works great.

The same with the WP updater.

Very pleased.
