WP v2.3 Being Released Soon - Necessary Upgrade?

Postby CorpRebel » Mon Sep 24, 2007 10:40 am

Hi Folks!

I see WordPress is releasing version 2.3 soon, maybe today (monday). Is this a critical upgrade or just some basic cleanup? I see it has some newer features. Guess I should upgrade but I hate to have to redo plugins I already have if I don't have to.

Seems like there is already some big issues with some popular plugins. I see that Lynn (in another thread here) is already having that experience. heh heh

BUT ... I guess I SHOULD upgrade. I'm gonna have to do it sooner or later.

FYI though ...

Preparing for WP 2.3

Here is a list of plugins that have been tested for compatibility with Version 2.3 plus those that didn't pass muster. Obviously it's probably not all inclusive yet being a new release.

Good Luck!

Updates and Upgrades drive me nuts

But if it were up to me, I'd probably still be using Windows 3.1 ! LOL

I have to outsource it - pulling my hair out is not on my task list :P

It's important to note that anyone using WP 2.0.x branch doesn't need to worry about upgrading to 2.3 unless they truly want to. However, make sure to upgrade to the latest version of the 2.0.x branch which will have the security fixes rolled into it. The WP team will be supporting this version until early next year, so there's still time. :)

I just upgraded to 2.3 from 2.1 and now I have
funny symbols on my page. Can anyone (uh ... Teli ;-) )
be kind enough to tell me what happened.

My blog is at:
http://www.webbriefcase.com.au

I'm seeing ’ all over the page. Do I have to
manually repair this?

Hi Bina,
The answer is an unfortunate yes; you will need to manually update those blog entries which are affected.

Those symbols usually appear for users who copy/paste documents from MS Word (or another rich text word processor) into their blog entries. Mainly single and double quotes are affected b/c WP automatically converts them into their HTML entities -- in your case, it seems that WP couldn't understand them and couldn't convert them accordingly.

To avoid this in the future, if you're going to write in a rich text word processor, make sure to copy/paste the text into a plain text editor (i.e. Notepad) before pasting it into WordPress.

Hey Joe,

While your blog gal is out, I can highly recommend Chris (above ^) to fill in. He handled my upgrade & plugin installations and handled it very quickly even - you wont be disappointed!
