I want to turn an old web site of mine into a blog Is it possible to do this and keep the file names or some of them the same? I think maybe not!
Also a question re showing off your blogs. It is hard to see new postings because they are 14 pages in. Is there any way to make the blog showings a new topic under a dedicated thread?

We were actually just discussing this at my blog and in this weeks issue of SSWT (delivered by email). See:

You wont be able to keep the old file names, but you can easily set up a 301 redirect so that those links redirect to the new files.

That's a good idea. Not sure how to do a 301 redirect though. Is there anywhere I can go to learn about that?
I read your newsletter about static blogging but was too late to get the discount. It set me thinking though.

Yes, do a search for "301 redirect htaccess" and you'll find quite a few free tutorials on how to edit your .htaccess file and set up permanent 301 redirects. Its pretty easy

Does Google give any kind of penalty for 301 redirects?
I've got sites that have inbound links to specific long-established pages and have been afraid to rock the boat.
Thanks

Thanks Lynn...
I can't help being a bit n-n-n-n-nervous about it.
