to analyze it for you. It may cost you
a little money, but will be well worth it.

Of course you can buy books and services to tell you what you need to
know, but when you read your own newsletter you simply cannot be
reading it with the eyes of a starnger, so paying a real pro like Bob (who
is a professional site analyst & excellent writer) to actually read and take
notes on your newsletter is still the best way to go.

Welcome, fast-track!

One tried & true method of finding writers is to run a contest. Come up with $100 and a couple of other prizes and advertise in every paper that'll give ye announcement (you'd be surprised..contact radio, too!)

Be specific about what you want : word length, subject, purpose of the article.

Use a holiday as the day you will announce the winners. Plan a luncheon and invite media.

Stay in touch with all the entrants. You should be able to develop a few regular contributing writers out of this.

Make the fees for those writers part of your regular operating budget. You will get more out of those dollars than out of the dollars you might spend on the latest marketing "software".

You may be able to team up with a bookstore or similar business or orgainzation in sponsoring the contest. Maybe a business community-service-volunteer group will be interested.

Nothing pushes most people's delete buttons faster than another email
subscribe drive.

A second benefit to the $100 writer contest I described is that you are
putting your website address out there in front of the general public and if
you've gone through Intro-To_web 101 you certainly have done enough
advance planning to have your new visitors signing an online subscription
form.

A free announcement in the community events column of a major Sunday
paper will get you 20,000 "views". The ones who care enough to visit your
site and subscribe will have been screened by their interest level and thus
are much more valuable in terms of their potential CR.

Furthermore, the follow-up with the awards event (which can be done in
many cases for $300 or less) (You can charge for the lunch if you must)
will greatly boost your credibility as a legitmate business.

This whole program can be done for a total layout of less than $500.
When you do the numbers on CR, I firmly believe that this type of
program will net you a much higher return, especially if the product you
want to sell in the final step is a long-term hosting contract, or a

series of e-publications.

Spend $100- $500 this way and the customers you have gained will form a
loyal base on which to build.

Spend the same amount on a massive email campaign and in another month you will have to do it all over again.
