How do you set Word to be the default program for internet?

A friend had stopped using Microsoft Word as her word processor and had set up her computer to open all .doc files on people's sites to open with the Open Source program that she was using. She cannot remember how to set it back to use Word and I cannot find the right place. So when she comes across a link something like... www.oursite.com/studypages/science.doc, it will not open because the open source program is no longer on her computer and it does not know to use Word. Of course, she can open it by right clicking, saving and then opening with Word, but how can she go back to making it open automatically when clicking the link.

Thanks for any help. I couldn't find the right place for resetting it and told her I'd call for backup.

From windows explorer, View->Folder Options
The File Type tab shows the existing extensions - you can edit them from there.

(This is from win 98, but it is similar, I am sure, on XP etc

Thanks, Baggs, for the suggestion. It's under Control Panel on XP. It's an area that I had not looked into yet, but unfortunately, was not the answer. This makes it so when she opens a Word document on her computer it uses Microsoft Word as the associated program. She was not having difficulty with this, only when opening/downloading the doc from a website in her browser.
